Housing and Zoning
At present, the City has over 15,500 homes ranging from exclusive detached homes to affordable condominiums. Over 80 per cent of these residences are owner-occupied. The city encourages further diversification of housing types and takes special care to protect natural environment, waterfront zones, and existing neighbourhoods with well-established character. Shopping, Dining and Entertainment
Within Port Coquitlam, there are several local shopping areas. The Downtown Core offers retail and other services in a small town atmosphere. The Northside Centre is a vibrant neighborhood shopping area. The PoCo Place Mall, located at the intersection of Lougheed Highway and Westwood Street, contains a wide range of shopping conveniences. Coquitlam Centre, one of British Columbia's largest malls, is just minutes away from Port Coquitlam.

Parks and Recreation
Port Coquitlam is proud of its unique "PoCo Trail," a scenic pathway along the banks of the Pitt and Coquitlam Rivers, good for walking, hiking, cycling, horseback riding, and wildlife watching. The rivers offer opportunities for boating and fishing.

Additional opportunities for outdoor activity are offered in the Nature Reserve Area and the City's well-maintained neighbourhood parks. Two regional parks are only minutes away. A variety of playing fields are located throughout the City. There are also swimming pools and the Carnoustie Golf and Country Club.

Major indoor facilities include the newly renovated Hyde Creek Centre, Wilson Centre offering social and recreational opportunities for senior citizens, and PoCo Recreation Centre.

Transportation
Port Coquitlam is located approximately 30 minutes from downtown Vancouver by vehicle, via three highways: TransCanada, Lougheed and Barnet. The highways also connect the city to other parts of the region and the rest of Canada.

Public transportation includes public buses and the West Coast Express, a comfortable, fast and reliable commuter train that operates during the rush hours taking only 39 minutes to reach downtown Vancouver.
