Over the past 20 years, it has entertained millions and had its fair share of challenges. News1130 spoke with the man responsible for bringing the fireworks to Vancouver two decades ago. He calls it an "institution in Vancouver." Back in 1990 Raymond Greenwood was the man in charge of bringing the Benson and Hedges Symphony of Fire to the city.
He started his career by selling fireworks shows in Montreal and proposed the idea to then Vancouver Mayor Gordon Campbell. Greenwood recognizes the annual rising costs of the show have threatened to cancel it. "Certainly they never want to see it leave town and I'm certainly very happy now that the City of Vancouver is the major sponsor of it, because they pay for all the operating costs."
