B.C.'s premier is expected to announce a new funding structure for the long-awaited Evergreen Line sometime in the next few weeks. Money for the mega project was promised in last week's budget, but Port Moody Mayor Joe Trasolini has heard the same message before. Transit-use spiked during the Olympics, and he feels the province should tackle big projects while the public is still onboard.
"Buses and SkyTrain were running more frequently, and the West Coast Express was running throughout the day instead of morning and night. It gives us an idea of what can happen if you have options," he says. Apparently, a review of TransLink's finances has shown there may be wiggle room to fund the Evergreen Line....a long promised SkyTrain line that would extend from Burnaby to Coquitlam. Trasolini is confident the project will go ahead but says it's time for all three levels of government to hammer out a solution before it's too late.
