Urban planner wants extra transit to stay
The buses were crowded, the extra SeaBus was packed, there were waits for the temporary streetcar, SkyTrain and Canada Line coaches were full and, best of all, no one complained. While some are suffering from an Olympic-sized hangover, others are looking at keeping the transit momentum going. That's why SFU urban planner and former Vancouver city councillor Gordon Price wants to see TransLink and its political masters find a way to keep our Olympic-style transit infrastructure in place.

"What really surprised me was how little car traffic there was. It was almost eerie. So many people adopted the idea that they can get around the entire region by transit and enjoy the experience," he says. He admits, though, the price-tag to keep an extra SeaBus, adopt a permanent streetcar, and run more buses would run in the billions. But he says the Olympics have shown if TransLink supplies the right service to areas people want to go, they will jump onboard. Source: News1130
