A Vancouver Island resort wants to help Olympic athletes affected by the cancellation of training days at Cypress Mountain in West Vancouver. Competitors in the Olympic snowboard halfpipe will now have three days to train at Cypress instead of five. Officials with Vancouver's Olympic Organizing Committee said the decision was made to preserve snow.

The mountain has suffered from the warmest January on record, forcing organizers into an extensive contingency plan that has involved bringing in snow from across the province. But at Mount Washington Alpine Resort, near Courtenay on Vancouver Island, record-breaking snowfall has built up a base of almost four metres.
