RCMP report results of aggressive driving crackdown March 20, 2008 |
During a one-day crack down on aggressive drivers at five busy Surrey intersections on Tuesday, RCMP officers handed out close to 300 tickets, mostly for speeding and seat belt violations, but there was also one drug seizure, and 4 commercial vehicles taken out of service after failing inspections.
Surrey RCMP warned drivers they'd be targeting aggressive driving at historically high crash locations, yet there were still 89 speeding tickets, 91 seat belt infractions, and 33 intersection violations, including failing to yield, and running red lights. Police say more enforcement operations like the one on Tuesday will be coming soon, as they say 45% of deadly crashes in B.C. are due to unsafe driving, especially at intersections.
