The first Franklin School was built in 1912 at the west end of the existing block and consisted of two classrooms. In 1926, the current building was constructed with an addition being built in 1973. Although at one time (1929-30) there were 434 students enrolled in the school, the population has been in the 240 - 260 range. These students are organized into 11 divisions.
Franklin Community School has a multi-cultural student population: 60% of Franklin families speak English as their first language, followed by Chinese at 28%, Filipino at 4%, Vietnamese at 3%, and Spanish at 2%. About 28% of our students have been identified as requiring program modification for ESL (English as a Second Language).
As Franklin is a community school, the parents play a significant role in the operation of the school as volunteers and as members of the Community Association.
