Fleming Elementary School is named after Sir Sandford Fleming, the original chief engineer for the building of the Canadian Pacific Railway. Fleming was also known as the inventor of Standard time and the designer of Canada's first postage stamp.
The main portion of the school was built in the early part of the century and has since had a number of additions which include east and west wings, an enlarged school gym, new Library and Computer Lab as well as an additional six classrooms in an outside building. The school grounds include a blacktop area for noonhour games, an inner courtyard, two adventure playgrounds and all-weather fields for soccer and baseball.
Fleming is a large school of over 550 students. The student population is multi-cultural in nature having students born in over 18 countries, speaking 22 different languages. Parental involvement is encouraged through our School Planning Council (SPC) and Parent Advisory Council (PAC).
