Charles Dickens opened in 1912. Currently there are approximately 475 students from Kindergarten to Grade Seven with a professional and support staff of 54. Dickens has a diverse multicultural student population with approximately 26 language groups - the largest representative groups being English, Vietnamese and Chinese.
Our 22 enrolling divisions include half and full day kindergarten and one district program Communications Class.
In 1989 Dickens staff adopted a multi-age organization of classes that supported our child-centred philosophy. Multi-age grouping is a method of school organization in which children of different ages are grouped together in classes on the basis of philosophy rather than for administrative reasons. A typical classroom spans two or three age levels (K/1/2, 5/6/7) and students remain with the same teacher for two or three years.
