Emily Carr Elementary is named in honour of the famous Victoria author and painter, Emily Carr. The school has a population of 311 students utilizing four buildings. There is a primary and an intermediate lunchroom (music room), a library and a large gymnasium. The population is socio-economically quite diverse and English is the predominant language although twenty languages are spoken in the community. There are 15 classroom teachers, an ESL/LAC Support team consisting of 3 teachers, a teacher/librarian, and a music teacher. Instructional support staff includes student and school support workers, area counsellor, education psychologist and a speech-language pathologist. There are two noon-hour/recess supervisors on duty on a daily basis. Emily Carr Elementary attempts to provide each student with the opportunity to develop to his/her fullest potential, not only as an individual but also as a member of society. Students are taught in a warm, supportive and an active-learning environment.
