Carleton
Sir Guy Carleton Elementary - In 1910 the Municipality of South Vancouver had a contest to rename its schools. The students of Cedar Cottage (Selkirk) won, suggesting the names of famous Canadians. They changed the name of Collingwood Heights to Sir Guy Carleton in 1911.

Guy Carleton, 1st Baron Dorchester (1724 - 1808), was a British soldier and administrator who was born in Strabane, Ireland. He arrived in Canada in 1758 and was an officer in the French and Indian War. He commanded the British troops in Canada during the American Revolution and repelled General Benedict Arnold's attack. In 1786 he became Governor of British North America (1786-96).
