Approximately 330 children attend Graham Bruce Elementary School. The staff is comprised of full-time and part-time positions with a total of 35 members.
The school was built in 1964 as Grenfell Annex. It became Graham Bruce Elementary in 1968 and an additional teaching area was added. The grounds include two adventure playgrounds, a black top with basketball courts and two playing fields (all-weather and grass). Recent upgrades have been the addition of three portables and a renovated staffroom (1994).
The school site consists of seven enclosed classrooms, two open area settings, an open library that has recently added seven new computers, an updated computer lab, complete with 32 stations, printers and a scanner. We have a large well-equipped gym and an activity room which serves as a Lunchroom and houses a Before and After School Daycare Program supervised by Collingwood Neighbourhood House After School Care. We also are fortunate to have a large grass playfield and a large gravel field for outdoor sports. Recently, a new Adventure Playground was designed by our students and funds were secured by our PAC to have it built on our school grounds.
Our community has a culturally diverse population. Parents have a voice in what goes on at Bruce by electing an executive, setting goals and attending monthly P.A.C. meetings. We have recently elected a School Planning Council.
