Toronto - The Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC) and the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) today announced that Canada's oldest company and largest department store retailer, Hudson's Bay Company (Hbc), will be official supplier of the Canadian Olympic Team uniforms for the 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Torino, Italy.
An evaluation committee consisting of representatives from VANOC and the COC chose Hbc after reviewing submissions from twelve companies that responded to a request for proposals that was issued in December 2004. Merchandise experts were consulted in the process.
"We are delighted to be working with Hbc which has a long tradition of supporting Canadian sport and athletes," said John Furlong, VANOC CEO.
"Athletes work tirelessly to earn a spot on the Olympic team and to wear Canada's team uniform at the Olympic Games," said Chris Rudge, COC CEO. "We welcome Hbc back to the Olympic family and look forward to working with them to create a clothing package that athletes will wear with pride and that reflects Canada's passion for Olympic sport."
"Hbc has a proud legacy of outfitting Canadian amateur athletes for competition," said George Heller, President and CEO, Hbc. "From our clothing of Canadian Olympic winter teams from 1936 to 1968, to our ongoing relationship with Canada's Commonwealth Games for the 2002 and 2006 Commonwealth teams as their official uniform designer and supplier to the thousands of minor league soccer and hockey teams that we outfit, we are fully committed to supporting the hopes and dreams of Canada's amateur athletes."
The clothing package for Canada's 2006 Olympic Winter Games Team will include parade, podium and event wear such as coats, jackets, sweaters, shirts, pants, shoes, touques, scarves and gloves. Hbc will also supply luggage for the team. Hbc designers, with input from world-class design partners, will develop uniforms for Canada's team at the 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Torino. Canadian athletes will have input into the design and development of the clothing and luggage package.
